Music Student Experiences in Europe
I have been an avid musician ever since I can remember. Getting the opportunity to go to the UK to study tunes, and music over all; was never in my wildest dreams. Even when I was growing up. However, I took more interest in it when I was in high school. As well as the way the guitar is played, and the piano has always fascinated me.
Listening to some of the oldest bands in music as well as classical music greats like Mozart as well as Beethoven gives one that sense of belonging. This is exactly what music has always given me. So, taking it seriously wasn’t my intention. This is because I wanted to pursue business in college. But my music teacher motivated me. She saw something in me that I for the life of me would never have recognized. I had a talent. She was willing to push me as hard as she could; so that I could switch my preferences and take music seriously.
She got her wish, and I got education for music
For all that I am today, I owe a lot to that teacher. I will always do. After graduating from high school, I did a few shows playing guitar and piano for a few touring bands; before I got this scholarship to study music here in the UK, Europe. Although, playing guitar and piano for the various bands were paying well. I just thought I should get my music act together, before I can take on that road.
Before long I got here. I was being admitted to the school. Shortly after, I met a few students that were playing in some band at the school grounds. I almost stood there perplexed for a few minutes; before I was nudged forward by some other student. Who is now one of my best friends here. Looking at those students playing those instruments in such a harmonious. As well as an orchestrated way just made me realize how foolish I was; by even considering not taking this scholarship. Those guys were way beyond the skills that I had.
I was earning a lot from being a music student
I thought what kind of impact they would make if they ever got into a rock and roll or heavy metal band with Bruce Dickinson. They are just too good for me even to contemplate that I might one day be as good as they were. I settled in well, and although the accent here is a bit hard for me to grasp the words sometimes, I am getting on well, and I am making progress in my studies. I can comfortably write my guitar chords that are great and that are one of the best things about this school.
The lecturers here take their lessons very seriously too and some of the biggest musicians of our time have passed through the hands of these lecturers so respecting them is not a choice that you have to be nudged to make.
There are a lot of students here that are talented and some that just aren’t and I like to believe that am in the few who are. This kind of talent just needs the right kind of direction, and this is what these lecturers here are for, though some am sure are here because of the fat paychecks that they receive each month. One of our lecturers is full of fun jokes like that and sometimes as dry as they are, we all have to make that effort to laugh hard so that she can give us the grades that are enough to get us through to the next school year.
The nights are even better as you can hear music coming from every corner of the school
Each student with his favorite instrument is trying to serenade the wind or his girlfriend. Whichever the case, it’s all beautiful nights here. Especially those that involve getting together and having a party while at the same time doing a little bit of competition with each other.
These parties teach one a thing or two about music that you would usually not learn in class and those are just some of the best moments of coming here to the UK to further my music studies. However, I do not regret this decision at all as I step out into the night with my guitar.
